February 6th to 8th 2025 in Kohima, Nagaland, hosted by the Department of Tenyidie, Nagaland University
The call for paper for the upcoming 13th NEILS conference (6-8 February 2025) is now closed.
The primary focus of the North East Indian Linguistics Society (NEILS) is to encourage the description of the rich cultural-linguistic diversity that exists in North-East India. In support of this goal, NEILS regularly organizes conferences in North-East India for scholars working in relevant domains to get together and exchange ideas. NEILS encourages papers with a primary descriptive component, preferably from a functional-typological or anthropological-linguistic perspective, on languages spoken in North-East India, as well as in the areas of Myanmar, China, Bhutan, Bangladesh and West Bengal that border North-East India. Field reports are also welcome. However, papers whose sole or primary focus is formal, theoretical and/or computational in nature, or papers whose focus is about languages spoken outside the above-mentioned region are generally beyond the scope of NEILS conference.
At the heart of the activities of NEILS lies its international conference. Originally it was an annual event, but since 2012 it has been a biannual event with a short interruption during the COVID pandemic. Until 2023, the conferences have been held in 5 cities in North-East India, viz. Guwahati, Shillong, Tezpur, Silchar and Kokrajhar. They are held during the pleasant winter months of January-February.
